Many times, I have patients who come in when they are in a state of increased pain for what I call "Crisis Care." I hear "Doc, just make it stop." While one or two adjustments may decrease the pain and discomfort to a more bearable level, it is not going to fix the problem. Many times, the problems are due to underlying causes that have been building on themselves for many, many years.
This is why it is important to get kids started with chiropractic care at a young age. Kids go through so many different traumas while learning to crawl, stand, and walk. Think of how many times you laugh and clap when your child is learning how to stand on their own. It’s so cute when they come crashing down on their little diapered bottom. Remember that their little spine is taking the brunt of those repeated falls. So, you add up those numerous falls, don’t forget to add the times they come flying down the slide at the playground only to land smack on their bottom, then add the times that they fall face first onto the floor or into a coffee table. These seemingly minor accidents pile up, and begin to create issues later in life in the form of ear infections, bed wetting and colic (in younger years) and low back pain, digestive issues, headaches and neck pain (in later years).
The best idea is to start with Chiropractic care early in life to PREVENT issues from occurring later in life.
The best way to do this is by getting your child’s spine checked by the Chiropractor from birth on, at least 1-2x a month. This is where Continuous & Consistent chiropractic care begins!
Sorry to digress! Most often, I see people coming in later in life with complaints of intense low back pain or chronic headaches. They begin chiropractic care, but as soon as the discomforts disappear, so do they! It is very likely that these patients will be back for more "Crisis Care" in a couple of weeks. There is a reason that Chiropractors set up treatment plans for each patient. Everyone responds differently to chiropractic care, but we know that research shows that it takes more than two adjustments to correctly fix a problem. This is where Continuous and Consistent chiropractic care come into play again. By staying on the treatment plan designed specifically for you, you have a better chance of fixing the problem rather than just "putting the fire out." Staying on track with your care allows the body to adapt and heal as it is ultimately designed to do! Once you are out of the initial discomfort and have worked with the Chiropractor to fulfill your treatment plan, you will more than likely be transitioned to wellness/prevention care and your number of visits will decrease. You will notice that you are no longer experiencing intense pain, and that you are ready for your check up just to make sure that you can maintain this amazing state of happy, healthy living!
